Rally Sprint Delivers Once Again

/Rally Sprint Delivers Once Again

V-Sport staff and customers were back in force at the penultimate round of the North Shore Sporting Car Club Twilight Rally Sprint, held at Sydney Dragway last night.  The car club put together a slightly different course layout than previous rounds, with more open corners and wider chicances, allowing for faster times than previous rounds.

Responsible for spreading rally sprint fever through the V-Sport office, Chris Paradowski was once again out on course, putting his Evo VIII MR through it’s paces. Chris has attended every round, and doubled as nagivator for V-Sport customer Andrew Field.

Neal Bates and Coral Taylor retired early on in the event, citing clucth failure on their 1995 ARC winning Toyota Celica GT-Four. The early end was uncharacteristic of the duo, who have put in a strong performance all season and no doubt crowd favourites at every round. Neal made most of the spare time, jumping in the Toyota 86 Pro-Am car with well known motor racing personality, Neil Crompton.

The second Celica GT-Four from the Bates camp has been piloted by both Harry and Lewis Bates each round. Previous class win honours went to Lewis, however, Harry answered back last night, claiming the 4wd Gravel class ourtight.

V-Sport’s Amanda Mason joined Harry Bates in the co-driver seat for the evening. Amanda had her first taste of rallying at the last round, helping V-Sport’s Barrie Smith. Hooked after the first run, Amanda has since undertaken co-driving lessons with Coral Taylor, and received assistance from her likeminded colleagues at V-Sport. The feedback from the pair was positive, made even sweeter with a trophy to top off the event.

Of course, V-Sport customers love the rally sprint, just as much as our staff. Steve Lowe was determined to get the best GoPro angle on the night, engineering an unusual boom mount on the back of his car. The contraption certainly caused quite a few heads to turn! Stay tuned for the video…

Guy Cook also joined in for some rally sprint action, after missing the previous round. We installed new MCA suspension on Guy’s Evo VIII recently.

Joining Steve and Guy, Matt Hughes and Brent Abel were back for more action in their Evo Twins, with no sign of the hiccups encountered in their first round.

The final round of the North Shore Sporting Car Club Twilight Rally Sprint will take place on Thursday, March 19th. Head over to the club website here to enter.
