Saturday 5th of July saw workshop and club teams gather once again for the 2017 Nulon Nationals Time Attack event at Sydney Motorsport Park. Drivers compete across a number of 10-minute sessions to lay down their fastest lap in the clear, dry conditions of the Sydney circuit. For many teams within a reasonable distance of Sydney, this event was a great opportunity to see where they’re at before the main time attack competition of the year in October.
Carrying on from round 1 our team remains largely unchanged with Troy driving his HSV Coupe 4 and Jamie in his Lancer EVO 8 MR. At Bathurst for round 1 we had Andrew in the VE Commodore Ute competing in the Hillclimb challenge, this round we have V-Sport’s own Chris in his Toyota 86, set up for track days and stickered up especially for this event.
A nice, clean day of track sessions for Team V-Sport, with no incidents and steadily improving times for Jamie, Chris, and Troy on the GP circuit. Just his second time on the SMSP circuit, Chris improved his personal lap time to a 1:57.934. Jamie Mischkonigg in the EVO 8 MR landed himself in 17th place on the workshop challenge results with a time of 1:46.337, just behind our fastest team car and driver on the day; Troy Nicholson in his converted-manual HSV Coupe 4. Troy placed 16th ahead of Jamie with a 1:44.952.
Last weekend’s results place us in 3rd as we approach the third and final event of the 2017 Nulon Nationals Workshop Challenge. We will meet again at SMSP for a round of ROLL RACING in September.
